Looking for ways to make your bland or dated home shine again? If you’re interested in a house makeover there are some simple ways you can add style and make your home look more expensive.
Working in the luxury home rental and estate management industry – I’ve seen how even some of the most expensive houses on earth can still use an update. These are some of the best upgrades expert designers use to skips the reno and make a home look high end again.
1. Upgrade Your Door & Cabinet Hardware
Nothing makes your house look dated like old knobs on your doors and cabinets!
Changing these out is one of the easiest ways you can make your home look more expensive. It makes quite the impact, and the same doors can feel brand new again!
2. Change Your Curtains
If the eyes are the window to the face, your curtains are like the eyes of your entire room! Kinda important, no?
Since your curtains really set the tone for a room, why not make a good impression. Upgrade your curtains and rods so you can hang your drapes high and wide. This gives the room a custom feel and will make your room look even bigger.
3. Declutter Your Spaces
This costs nothing, yet makes the biggest difference in the world!
Get rid of all the extra knick knacks and try to leave so open space for the eyes to take a visual rest in the room. Try grouping items with a similar color palette together for a more high end feel.
4. Hide Your Electronic Wires
Wires aren’t great to look at, so try hiding them. TV’S, Computers, Stereos, and Appliances looks much less noticeable when wires are tucked out of sight.
You can use cabinetry, tape, baskets and wire organizers – and get creative. Do this across all bedrooms, living areas, and offices and make your home look much more sophisticated.
5. Add In More Neutrals
One of the secrets of high end hotel decor and vacation rentals, is to present an elevated look while still trying to appeal to everyone.
They do this with plenty of neutral colors on the couches, textiles, and bedding. This is one of the easiest changes you can use to make a space feel calmer and brighter.
6. Create A Molding Wall
Texture on the wall is another one of the best ways to make a space look more high end.
Picture moldings are my favorite sophisticated look, and they can be as simple or intricate as you like. Even simple wainscoting, will create a custom feel that will make your home look more expensive.
7. Wallpaper Small Spaces
Going bold in a small space is one of designers favorite ways to bring high end style to a home.
Wallpapering a small bathroom, entryway, or mudspace can delight they eyes and make a room look more custom. Be sure to hang it on all walls to create the biggest impact you can!
8. Paint Trim Black
Black trim for windows is one of the top interior design trends that isn’t going away anytime soon.
Painting doors, windows, and even railings in a sleek black can make your home look more expensive instantly. It provides lovely contrast throughout the room, making for some great visual eye candy.
9. Improve Your Front Door
Finally, if your first impression of your home doesn’t have much curb appeal, one of the best things you can do is makeover your front door.
A new paint job, and some stylish hardware go along way to giving your home a chic an updated look!
I hope you enjoyed these tips to add high end style in your home! These are some of my favorite ways to make a house look more expensive, and they’re a lot of fun to try out!

I have been wanting to paint the trim around my white French doors black; I want to keep the doors and crown and baseboard trim white. When you say paint the trim a “SLEEK” black…what exactly does that mean? Mat or eggshell finish and what color black…wow…there are so many variables.
Thanks for any help.

That sounds like it will be beautiful! I think a semi gloss with works best for trim, it’s also more resistant to scuffs/scratches! Hope that helps!
